Timberline Lodge

After a lovely lunch in the dining room and a chance to play in the snow a bit, we enjoyed a break on the ledge at Timberline Lodge. This lodge is on the National Historic Register, and is a magnificent example of craftsmanship. Work began by the WPA (Federal Works Progress Administration - one of FDR's programs) in 1936. The lodge was built by hand with timber and stone from the area. After over 70 years, it is still in use as it was originally intended: a mountain lodge. IN addition to its primary function as a lodge, it has also been a part of seven movies, most notably, as The Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's The Shining. From here,
we traveled west to the coast to Newport. Then we headed south along the coast to Yachats for the night.
