Sea Lion Cave

This cave is the largest naturally occurring sea cave in the world. It was created by two separate lava flows, and then eroded along it's two faults over time to create a T-shaped cavern. After the first lava flow, a light ash was deposited, which is evident in the light-colored stripe in the cave wall. It has been inhabited by Sea Lions since before the cave's discovery 80 years ago. It is the largest known rookery for Stellar Sea Lions. There were several huge bulls checking on their cows, and lots of juveniles hanging around and playing outside the cave.
