Lava Cave Climate Shock

As we entered one of the lava tubes of the Newberry Shield, the climate changed drastically. The temperature in the tube is a constant 46 degrees. When the water vapor of our breath met the cold air coming out of the cave, we started making our own personal clouds. This was actually a challenge because the tube is not lighted, so as we breathed, the cloud we made would hang around our heads and make it difficult to see with our flashlights! The fire-breathing dragons in this shot are (bottom to top) Shawn, Sarah, Juliane, Peg, Alison, and Lisa.
