Multonomah Falls

Multonomah Falls is breathtaking! It is the second highest year-round waterfall in the US. There are two parts to the falls. The first drop is 560 feet, the second (under the bridge) is 70 feet, for a total of 620 feet. The hike to the top of the falls was 1.2 miles of zig-zagging trail. Climbing 620 feet to the TOP of this waterfall in just over 1 mile makes for a challenging hike. There are 11 switchbacks, and some scary portions of narrow trail with sheer drops to the side. It was worth the effort, though, to watch the water tumble over the edge and into the air. Most of it turns into a fine mist before it hits the water below. I only wish we had taken drinking water with us on the hike. We were quite thirsty once we got to the top, and seeing all that cool clear spring water just heightened our awareness of that thirst. Once we hiked back down, we stopped in for a water break, and I had an Italian Soda. Mmmmmm!
